One song that’s been running in my head since our friend Cleansweep played it on our Collab radio show 2 weeks ago, was Common’s “The People”, the first single off his latest album “Finding Forever“. Soulful jazzy hiphop is where my money’s at kids and “Finding Forever” is no different. Illinois native Common hasn’t released new stuff for the last 2 years but he still seems to be pursuing the oldschool hiphop dream of raising social awareness & spirituality as opposed to the blatant garbage on MTV right now that’s pushing consumerism, luxury, ego, sex etc.

“Finding Forever” has many tracks produced by Kanye West and also includes the J Dilla track “So far to Go“. Neo-soul meets electro with a few strange appearances like Lilly Allen but I think the 12 track album is a solid one with at least 5 top tracks. Respect to all the MCs like Common who stay down to earth even though they’re on major label, and have something to say & think hiphop is more than partying & who’s got the bigger diamonds.

From Inglewood to a single hood in Botswana
I see the I in We my nigga, yours is my drama
Standin’ in front of the judge with no honor
my raps ignite the people like Obama
