* Well known avantgarde jazz guitarist Marc Ribot and other musicians were protesting the closing of world famous experimental / indie / avantgarde music venue Tonic, NYC by showing up for an improvised concert while the workers dismantled the stage!! * Here’s a label I found from comments on the above occassion. Engine Studios is a miniscule label that says no to dumbass music. Territories covered are avant jazz, afrobeat, world, jazz and good music in general, they sell their stuff for 6.50$, and if that isn’t being generous, they’ve got a 20 song mp3 page with full tracks from all their acts. I only know the Kokolo Afrobeat Orchestra but I think I’m going to buy the Andrew Lamb Trio album right away, because spoken word on jazz seems to be one of my favourite indulgences right now.
