The Berg Sans Nipple

Ever wondered how the surge of music software in the last few years have created an influx of immature and unsophisticated music, people with not even a basic grasp of how music works or how you can create emotions can easily make music and find a scene of followers now. A dissensus thread I read yesterday declared “Grime Dead” with Plan B’s following words

Suddenly, you had all these 18, 19-year old kids who didn’t know about the equipment they was using and started making beats on their Playstation 2, burning their beats off of the computer and then onto vinyl. They weren’t mixing it or nothing. That was the production!

In the age of immature music then, The Berg Sans Nipple are a jewel. The US/French duo of Lori Sean Berg and Shane Aspegren has been around for a while, I previously enjoyed their 2002 Soundtrack for a short called Marie Madeleine, but this time they’ve hit big with a new album on Team Love.

Along the Quai” is dense and well-composed, it doesn’t bore you with too few or too much and layers of melodies & percussive elements go in and out with such an organic balance that you’d be surprised this is electronic music. This is the music of the conscious robot with humanlike emotions (hopefully one day) that sits apart at work from the mindless drones with only 1 idea repeated per song/day!. Strangely both of these fellas are drummers but as a display of their creativity, just watch the video below to see how they work together live (in your face Safri Duo!). One of the better and most complete albums of 2007, catch them live, they’re now touring Canada & USA.
