Christmas Decorations

Second release of NY experimental duo Christmas Decorations on Community Library is similar in vein to the guitar processing artists like C. Fennesz or Jim O’ Rourke, but imo with more playfulness and vibrant compositions.

On Communal Rust there’s layers of granular processing, glitches, bitcrush and repetition like the other “experimental guitar” artists, but the duo of Steve Silverstein and Nick Forte< actually play guitar underneath these effect layers and create variety between their songs in contrast to say, Fennesz‘ sonic paintings. I haven’t listened to their first release on Kranky, but this one is worth checking out, especially the opener “Upstage the Drips” with slide guitar, drips and harmonica like samples, suitable to be the theme song to your kids 5th birthday footage.

They also have a new EP called “The Land of Nope” which is available as part of the limited Melted Mailbox mailorder series.

highly recommended for fans of Tim Hecker, Machinefabriek or Aaron Martin! (boomkat)
