Well, the hipster festival SXSW has begun. The rise of SXSW from a relatively unknown festival (at least for me) 2 years ago and becoming a huge worldwide acknowledged event in 2 years is pretty interesting. There’s probably lots of blogs attending & covering SXSW, but you know I’m not really into most of the hipster college indie rock stuff. That said I’ve got a few recommendations that I got from the SXSW Promo Torrent.
If you’re at the SXSW probably you’ve made up your mind about who to see, but here are some of the artists I’ll be checking out. (if I lived in the US of course, I really don’t want to get treated like shit at the airport customs so I won’t be going to USA until Obama is president :P) Eliot Lipp, Erase Errata, Golem, Les Breastfeeders, Mammut, Nina Nastasia & Jim White, Oxford Collapse, Pawa up First, Sasquatch, The Berg Sans Nipple. Down under are some selected tracks, I’m particularly interested about Navruz, an ethno folk band from Uzbekistan making interesting percussive music with strings & brass, hopefully gonna open some eyes to more Eastern flavours. And don’t forget that the legendary funkmaster Dennis Coffey will be performing too.
Edit : It seems Squashed has already done an extensive review of all the music acts on Bricolage Fantasy, with proper genre divisions like Punk, Pop and Jazz. Good work mister.
