After doing nada for 5 days, it’s time to start off 2007 for undomondo, and what better way to start than our nujazzy friends Koop. I’ve been listening to their Koop Islands album released by Compost for a few months, and as always the Stockholm based duo has kept the album under 45 minutes. Their previous album “Waltz for Koop” was a real delicacy and “Summer Sun” from the same album has remained a downtempo anthem for me for years.

“Our music is created in a post-sampling world where everything is possible. Even time travel. That’s why we just laugh if someone calls what we do retro.

“Koop Islands” gives us more caribbean influenced nu-jazz beats with strings from 40’s, sometimes reminiscent of De-Phazz’s sweet pop sounds or Nicola Conte’s musical prowess. Guest artists include Yukimi Nagano (the singer on Summer Sun), Earl Zinger and Mikael Sundin. Check out the song “I see a different you” with uptempo percussion, splendid cinematic strings, and vibes. Will this replace “Summer Sun” in the anthems department ? Time will tell..
