Sorry for the lack of posts, just havin’ a hard time with my finals for the time being. I’m through with all but two, so it’s time to feature my primary helper during this stressful week, Dead Meadow’s reissue of their self titled first album. I don’t know why but this CD grew on me this week, although I had it for a month or so and I liked it, perhaps the faraway & cloudy musical adventure was where I wanted to be. On a road trip to the Wild Wild West!!! But for now, all i have is the World Wide Web :(

Dead Meadow’s been getting rave reviews during this last two years, they’ve been on the Dinosaur Jr. revival tour and lately on tour with Wolfmother, and their 2005 album Feathers is well-received. Although this is by no means an inaccessible one, It’s heavier and not as accessible as their latest efforts. However in this album you’ll find one of the best psych & doom & stoner rock combination ever. Hendrix’ noisy wah blues riffs mixed with and the unforced heaviness of Sabbath or Budgie and stoner rock jam bands with lots of spacy slide guitar work. Very energetic and rolling like a Southern Rock motorpsycho!!.

I found it strange that they’re from Washington DC, as it sounds anwyhere but the east coast, but props to them, they’ve got me headbanging and air guitaring at the same time like there’s no tomorrow. Dead Meadow’s debut was originally on Fugazi bassist Joe Lally’s Tolotta records, but now Xemu is re-releasing the first two albums make sure you get them.

I’m featuring the instrumental “Greensky Greenlake“, which may not be as jam packed and heavy as the other songs, but it has some heartwrenching guitar work, which I could not resist. Rest are free downloads available from Matador Records (features more songs)

Buy the album at Boomkat.

why is there a picture of the wrong drummer here? didn't steve only join on shivering kings and feathers? the first dude had a jazzier feel.
  • The heavily bootlegged Dead Meadow Peel Sessions will also be released by Xemu Records in the near future -- after "Howls from the Hills."
