Bizarre little album on HäpnaBut I agree with the Tinymixtapes review, it’s got so few memorable moments, dunno why.
Methinks it’s one of the best indie albums this year..
Such a beautiful one, this closer track
You know what’s wrong about me? I tend to stay away from popular & hyped stuff. Although this instinct has successfully guided me in the music industry since teenage years, every year there’s one or two albums that I can’t listen because of this subconscious urge. Luckily this time I resisted that urge and listened to the Broadcast album. It would have been in Top 10, had I begun listening earlier.
Congrats to Burial who topped Boomkat’s Top 100 chart and also Kode9 & Hyperdub crew for giving us 2 groundbreakers in a year.
Chris Clark has reduced his name to Clark in his 3rd release on Warp. Although no individual song stands out, it’s one of the best Warp releases this year.
Here’s Diesler’sDecember Podcast for you to enjoy.
Pleasant folk songs for easy listening
Virtually non-existant in all top lists of 2006, but why? This is the most accessible Frith music I encountered (although I’m no expert). Guitars, violins, scrapings, a hurdy gurdy turned modern in an improvised album. However unlike most improv albums in the avantgarde scene this time it’s got melodies and it makes it accessible to layman jazzheads like me. Out on Intakt.
Out on one of my favourite labels from the North, Rune Grammofon, that gave us Alog, Biosphere and Jazzkammer before.
A Taste of Ra - 37 Turns ‘Round You
Avishai Cohen - Continuo
Broadcast - Illumination
Burial - Gutted
Clark - Vengeance Drools
Diesler - A little something
Esbjoern Svensson Trio -Brewery of Beggars
Frith/Wishart/Kihlstedt - Postcard from the Back
In the Country - Hello wait
