Last saturday Peter from Frozen Elephants Music, tipped us on a recent release, frankly it was the first time I heard this little experimental netlabel. With no big name on its roster, it seems the elephant hasn’t been covered at great length on the blogosphere (or maybe I have been unlucky till now). Anyways, they’re on their 5th release conceived by Miwa Momo Hojo & Yuichi Nagao, which with it’s exquisite quality made me go back and download all 5 releases and choose some songs for you. Digital songwriting at it’s best, the traditional song formula is gone and the songs sound more like the end result of an interactive multisensory adventure for a kids education DVD. Hyperactive music with layers of things going on, always changing, I’d be going back to this one, for sure.

Also on Frozen Elephants is Dublin artist Hulk, (the only artist I previously knew about thanks to his Static Caravan release) has a blissful ambient piece on The Map is Not the Territory, their first label compilation, while Ludovic Guerry’s Krabatof Philharmonic Orchestra creates a desolate but also peaceful soundscape with digital noise, I also highly enjoyed Nim’s ambient piece with animal sounds and tiny rhyhthmic noises. All in all, a very satisfying ambient/electroacoustic compilation, I’d even go as far as calling it one of the best netlabel albums I’ve heard this year. In fact I’ve really got to say almost all the stuff on this netlabel is miles above average, very elegant and absorbing soundscapes and more on the right side of the art/experimentation line.

Miwa Momo Hojo & Yuichi Nagao – Futago Uchuu
Miwa Momo Hojo & Yuichi Nagao – Namae Mo Shiranai Nante
Nim – Humboldt Session
Krabatof Philharmonic Orchestra – Needle Pleasure
Pau Torres – John Leo Crew Part 10
Claudia – Kindergarten
Akihigo Taniguchi – Stringnirts
Hulk – Elephant Memory
