One of the albums I’ve been coming back to these nights is Rameses III’s Matanuska on Music Fellowship. After listening to music for some time during the day, I don’t want to hear any beats at night before sleep. However most of the drony/ambient music is either dark and noisy or too new age. There enters Rameses III with a bright & blissful ambience over accoustic guitars/strings. The title track “Matanuska” has a dense middle eastern atmosphere over trilling strings with guitar gestures here and there while the closer “Queen’s road cemetery” has bright drones over chirping birds and natural ambience. It’s amazing how this song can completely empty your mind and put you in an involuntary meditative/vegetative state. Here’s an interview with the Rameses trio, if you wanna know what other projects they’re up to.

Rameses III – Matanuska
Rameses III – Queens Road Cemetery
Forty Nine Hudson – Unseen but felt
Rothko – Halftones & Metatones
Tarantel – Everybody fucks with somebody
