Belbury Poly

Team Undomondo is leaving for Prague today, so expect less posts till Wednesday, I’m trying to queue up 1-2 posts before I leave, but it seems I don’t have enough time to do it, we’ll see!

Let’s start with the amazing Belbury Poly aka Jim Jupp from Ghost Box. Jim is the founder of the label with Julian House aka The Focus Group, which I thought I had featured previously but seems I haven’t. The music of Belbury Poly is, very pastoral and naive; like a stroll through rural UK in winter. The label says “Imagine soundtracks to televised versions of Arthur Machen tales, beautifully filmed in grainy day for night lighting, yet too disturbing and explicit ever to be broadcast.” How come I never come up with descriptions like this!.

I especially fell in love with “Tangled Beams” which feels like it has escaped from Pirates! or a medieval/renaissance computer game, Everything feels old, old books, old town lifes, old synths / moog solos and melancholy. I feel very happy because there are weird people like Jupp who’s constantly blessing us with fringe music like this.

Belbury Poly - Tangled Beams
Belbury Poly - Rattler’s Eye
Belbury Poly - The Willows
