Otur

Here’s a surprise electronic downtempo album from Sweden, which went far beyond my expectations. Otur means sit down in Turkish, but I figured out that it means bad luck in Swedish.
22 years old Emma Bates from Malmoe, Sweden who was previously worked with Jens Lekman and lots more seems to be an active mover and shaker in Sweden.
Her debut “Pepperbox Hill” on Vapen & Godis is a synth based modern electro pop album but not of the electro-clash variety. Pepperbox Hill is beautifully crafted vocal pop which shines her songwriting ability on underlying dancable urban downtempo music. It all feels very much personal and dreamy, with pads and filtered vocals creating a cold ambience. I felt all melancholic and lonely listening to it, it’s surely coming out of Sweden!. Unique easy listening album from a talented songwriter..
