Brand New Heavies

A note I should be dropping earlier but couldn’t because of slacking is that The Brand New Heavies are back with a new album. They’re one of the archetypes of the soulful urban acid jazz funk combination. This new album sees them reuniting with vocalist N’dea Davenport, and it seems that’s gonna rock. Here’s what the Hollywood Reporter says about them:

During the Heavies’ absence, another three-word named act — the Black Eyed Peas — has risen to fame and snared the hearts of middle schoolers with its slightly naughty “Humps”-filled hip-hop. Now the Heavies have returned with a much more organic and mature mix of soulful grooves that might not appeal to ADD-addled youngsters, but it’ll warm the souls of their parents like a steaming cup of coffee on a cool morning.

You can stream all of the album at Heavies’ Listening Party, which shows us how the internet & digital life can be helpful to bands & labels if used rightly. They’ve put their videos on youtube, they’re on myspace, they’re previewing their album online, and they’re a major band. Good times are ahead!
