Here’s the final installment of the top 2006 list with some more good songs. Barbara Morgenstern’s 2006 effort The Grass is Always Greener is an allround electronic pop/downtempo album it’s not groundbreaking but it’s her 3rd album in a row with the same quality that you’d expect and the operator is a jolly good song to sing-along. Another song I instantly fell in love is Humans from Islands’ Return to the Sea. Just listen to the lyrics which are about the future of us humans, and the part that goes “should we mobilize, take ‘em by surprise” is where this song got me, awesome vocal melody there guys!
Some of the other stuff worth mentioning are Arkhangelesk’s self titled CDR on Foxglove, Asuna’s Room Note, Dwayne Sodahberk’s Cut Open on Tigerbeat6, Belle and Sebastian’s The Life Pursuit, Boris’ Pink with a whopping 8.7 on pitchfork, Liars’ Drum’s not dead, The Knife’s Silent Shout, Asobi Seksu’s Citrus, Charalambides’ A Vintage Burden and so on, here are some other best of 2006 lists to check out for you.
Barbara Morgenstern – The Operator
Porest – Hoyda
Islands – Humans
The Watery Graves of Portland – Three white men rowing
Pearls and Brass – No stone
