Banabila

Hey, I’m nowhere near completing my top list for 2006, so once again I’m postponing it to next week, and go to a festival in Istanbul to enjoy some open air.

Banabila is Rotterdam based composer Michel Banabila, a well-known ambient-downtempo musician. Although he’s released lots of stuff, I only listened to his collab with Monoscope which I didn’t like, and his Voiznoiz album which was a great CD.

However this double cd release called “Hilarious Expedition” is pretty different from everything. This is a compilation from four theatre productions and two films, and pretty much experimental, reminded me of Bertrand Burgalat’s Quadrille soundtrack. It’s composed of field work, pizicatto orchestra sounds, ambience, vocal snippets etc. It’s really a hilarious journey which spans over 41 songs. The pastoral orchestral song Bouwtekening will give you the idea.
