Call me Poupée

What’s up with multiinstrumentalists these days? They’re under every stone, perhaps with the rise of electronics and internet, people are now better with playing more than one instrument. Perhaps it’s because of postmodernism and eclecticism people tend to check out & form different subcultures and fuse them with others. Anyways, I like eclectic music with subtle references, and if the artist / band has defined their own niche sound, then I’m all for it.
Now here’s Call me Poupée, I was just checking out their stuff among others, and their music stood out instantly. It’s not that I’m a Spaghetti Western fan, nor a real surf head, nor dirty electro-pop man. However mr. Ken Fortrel of Montreal (formerly of Les Secretaires Volantes and Les Breastfeeders) and vocalist Poupee (formerly of Les Slotmachines) has prepared a mixture so good, the songs instantly shone among others. Kinda like Beirut’s maximal music, this has got a barrage of sounds of cinematic quality and great vocals.
Previously they had released a two song demo produced by Mingo L’Indien of Les Georges Leningrad which got radio airplay and these two tracks are from their debut album on Semprini Records.
