A short break..
ok, I know I don’t regularly post but that’s because of my laziness. This break is because I’m going on a 3 day vacation. So it’s worth mentioning I guess. I was gonna post a half-year best of 2006 list but couldn’t finish it up, so before I say goodbye here’s some music for you to listen to.
First track can be an addition to the previous Call me Poupee post, because this song has the same Spaghetti Western galloping drums and uptempo guitar. This is from Ville Leinonen and Valumo’s Varpunen 12″ on Fonal records. There’s some great singing going on I can feel it, but I can’t understand shit because it’s in Finnish. There’s something very finnish in the music as well, akin to stuff that’s ever present in Aavikko etc., I don’t know what perhaps the essence of Finness? Anyways the b side track is also great so I advise you to go and do some shopping on Fonal. And while you’re there also check out Kemialliset Ystavat, Shogun Kunitoki and Paavoharju which was mentioned here before and here on Bricolage Fantasy.

The next two tracks are from Canada’s Western Birds. Some good-hearted indie rock with a good enjoyable mood. Nothing groundbreaking sound-wise but “Thanksgiving” has some psychedelic/proggy moments which conjured up The Who’s Quadrophenia to mind, dunno why. Off the “To the tip of the Nail” CDR.
