Here we are again, with a terribly cloudy day in Istanbul. I’ve really been depressed about weather, constantly waiting for sunny days, it’s May, but it’s still not half as good as it should be. Anyways I’m not gonna depress you today with downers. Here are some great deep house / dance tracks from recent albums and 12″s.

Let’s begin by disco legend Larry Levan. There’s a double cd anthology of Larry Levan the late DJ who passed away in 1992. He’s one of the most influential DJs, and has worked with divas like Loleatta, Gwen Guthrie, Chaka Khan and more. This is an awesome release showcasing 22 productions, and I’m sure it would cost you a fortune to get these stuff on original vinyl. So huge thanks to Rhino. Here’s the opener Paradise Change, just check out how his sound is still fresher than 80% of the house music scene. Some producers really should be ashamed of themselves.

Second track is by Luisito Quintero produced by another house legend Little Louie Vega, one half of Masters at Work. Luisito’s album is called Percussion madness, and it’s promptly that. It’s not really a house album, but it has lots of guest stars, and it’s a very dancable latino album. I mean how can you go wrong with guests like Hilton Ruiz and Milton Cardona and Blaze!. Some nice album out of New York, it also features a cover of Fela Kuti’s Gbagada Gbogodo.

Last track is off Bangana’s 12″ on Heya. It’s a solid dancefloor track nothing really groundbreaking, but the Latino tinge of this post, needed a good dancefloor track to end, and Bangana provides just that.

Sample & buy Larry Levan’s Journey into Paradise from Rhino.
Another review of Quintero’s CD and more tracks to sample at Rapster Records
Buy Bangana’s Refresh / Bang Bang 12″ from Traxsource
Bangana – Refresh
Larry Levan – Paradise Change
Louie Vega presents Luisito Quintero – Quintero’s Jam feat Hilton Ruiz
Fela Kuti – Open & Close/Afrodisiac – Jeun Ko Ku (Chop’n Quench) from FreeMotion Hiphop blog which features diverse stuff from Saul Williams, Roots Manuva to Ghislain Poirier and Dizzee Rascal.
And after all this head down to Congahead to watch incredible video footage from Latin bands & musicians. Very high quality and interesting!.
