Sid Peacock & Surge

← Previous : Netlabel Releases - February ||| Next : Erstes Wiener Heimorgelorchester

Observant readers will remember the name from a few months back. Mr. Peacock is an Irish born musician who is the leader of Surge. I was pretty amazed that the Surge is an unsigned band (I hope I’m not making this up?), and when I first listened I thought Mr. Peacock was an old jazz head, however he is young as well.

Sid Peacock’s Surge is a 11 piece jazz ensemble, with an avant feel. They have released 1 CD called Surge - Live in Birmingham, independently, and they seem to be pretty relaxed, about the music industry. I appreciate their music and their political view and ideas. Which can be heard on the “You can’t buy everything track” or the “Surge Psilocybin” track where Sid makes a Proudhon reading that’s known as “to be governed“.

I’ve made excerpts from their independently released live album, and I’m pretty sure you’ll like some of the tracks here and you’ll go and buy to hear the rest :). The music is catchy yet spasmodic at times, and I was asking myself through the CD, that how on earth are these guys have done all these live. All independent bands deserve support that’s true, but this band deserves more than that. Their music vision is very broad (you can see them covering an old classical song in a very fresh way) and I hope I get to see them live one day, here in Istanbul. (If I meet an adventurous venue owner, that is)
