Yid Vicious - The Seventh Schlemiel

Hailing from Wisconsin, this funny klezmer band has a great name that instantly knocked me up. A band with this name would surely have a great attitude I thought not taking themselves too seriously at all. Boy was I right!. This is a great CD, especially if you have a previous notion of Balkan brass music and klezmer (well, I know most people wouldn’t count themselves as a klezmer fan) but don’t dismiss them if you don’t. Because this album can easily transfer the cheerfulness of the bar mitzvahs or the outdoor weddings to your houses (at some time including the vision of the happy jews dancing around your living room..). It’s easy for me to sympathise with klezmer because the music / culture is blended with the Slavic and the Turkish cultures too, and if you’ve ever been to the East of Europe, or watched a movie, you would surely feel the vibe.
These vicious guys add up to a total of 7 and they play everything from clarinets to saxophones, and from fiddle to mandolin. This is their 3rd album and it’s really hard to stop listening to their uptempo songs and go listen something else. I had a tie between 3 songs and had forced myself to choose 2, well I still mourn for the song I haven’t chosen, I wish all you guys would buy this album and listen to it .. or you could go down to where the band is playing if you’re around Madison, WI and tell the band you wish to listen to “Tsiganeshti“.
PS : Right after I finished this up, I found a link on CD Baby, that has a 2 minute preview for all songs..
