Kobol - Broken Ebony

Tags: , , , ,

Greetings from sunny Mexico. Here are some debut delicacies by our new Mexican friends Kobol. The album Broken Ebony is released by Tijuana label Static Discos, which also features Fax and our dark prince of avant-strings, Murcof.

“A jazz album for tweekheads and an electronic album for jazzheads” says the catalogue description and i couldn’t
agree more.

Kobol duo Nashio Chavez and Argel Medina have captured quite a neat sound; a nice combination of various jazzy moves (from laidback to roughly asymmetrical) with pausy beats and digital processing and although there are lots of contrasting elements in the music, the experimental side, although strong, is kept well controlled under the in-between-songs-flow. This makes the album quite a head-to-toe listening experience. I like these kinds of albums especially when doing long and concentrated work.

Muy bien amigos, keep up the good work.
