Andrew Pekler - Strings and Feedback

← Previous : Netlabel releases - January ||| Next : Lokai - 7 Million

Andrew Pekler’s latest offering on Staubgold is a 10 piece album that doesn’t sound like his previous stuff on ~Scape. (I was going to post an mp3 from his previous album, but remembered just in time that it was on ~Scape and I don’t want anymore trouble with them so everyone go back to your Station to Station CD if you wanna remember how his sound was!).This album is mostly devoid of any beats, but it has a slew of slow growing, piano and string feedbacks, stutters and tonal ambience that form their own rhythm. It’s a very calm album, and you have to be patient and listen to the tracks a few times to get the feeling right.

The samples are mostly decomposed from Morton Feldman’s work in the 1950s. He’s used grain delays and created out of this world poetic sequences with great attention. Tense at times, like 50s space movies, the soundscapes he’s created are barren and minimalistic, and the songs are mostly short.

I highly recommend this album (especially with headphones because there’s so much detail here that would go unnoticed without them.) and I think it might end up in my top of 2006 list too!
