Yay for these Portland boys. Although the 2005 album “With a Cape and a Cane” is generally nice, it makes a peak right with this number. Perhaps the song seems too overpowering compared to the rest of the album and if it was a more straightforward indie piece and if it had a voice it would yell something like “Dammit make me a video and make it half animation and half video art that will make Maximo Park cry.” but alas!

If you like your indie with excessive riffage, assymetrical stops and eastern influence, this is the one for you. The eastern piece (it feels odd to call something eastern since i am from the east myself) that the song is based on, sounds so familiar and well known but i can’t put a name to it. maybe one of you can, huh?

For the curious, I included a nice interview with the band members and don’t worry: no “my girlfriend made me do it”s, no “i cut myself”s. Just enough to let you know about their view of music and some interesting stuff on the Portland scene.
