Fedayi Pacha has been on my tracklist for a few months, but the time to post about him has just come. I first heard about him on a French dub compilation featuring him and Zenzile among others. Then I got his album Dub Works, out on Hammerbass a French Label. The music is what you would expect from his name. Well sorry, most of our readers are from the US, so the meaning of Fedayi Pacha wouldn’t ring a bell probably.
Fedayi means something like a personal bodyguard that would go to death for you, and Pacha is well, a Pacha, something like a general in oriental countries. So to sum up, this is going to be an oriental dub album..
Fedayi Pacha is a French orientalist, interested in all kinds of Middle Eastern sounds. Should I suspect he is from Algerie or Morocco, I don’t know, most of his interviews are in French, so I’m not sure of his descent.
This album translates the powerful Middle Eastern motifs through electronic dub.. Ah, the sound of the desert and barren wastelands and nomad tents..
In other news : just found the best web2.0 application for an art and crafts market. The name is Etsy, it has a lovely design, and it’s full of hundreds of small artifacts from jewellery to bags.
