Loading ...Ok boys and girls, everyone likes to make a toplist, it’s a humanly urge.. I’ve made one too and I’m going to publish it next week. It’s a top 10 list anyway so it’s not so big and there are tens of lists with tens of bands, so I tried to do a metalist of better lists / choices for you.
- Top 05 Jazz albums thread on ILX - great thread as always, Brad Mehldau, Bar Kokhba Sextet, Jason Moran, Wynton Marsalis, Jamie Saft Trio etc. many possible greats that I haven’t checked as well!
- Tiny Mix Tapes Top 25 - going for crowdpleaser trendy indie/electronica for you here, Sigur Ros, Wolf Parade? come on!. although they haven’t missed Konono No.1 at #15, Gang Gang Dance at #4 and Akron/Family at #5 (a bit high), well that’s about it, good commentary though :)
- Boomkat’s Top 50 albums - Now here are some notable recommendations, e.g Women & Children at #1, Deaf Center at #4, Basinski at #15, I haven’t checked these out but seeing W. Basinski on a top list is shock and awe for me!. Some additions I liked here are Porn Sword Tobacco at #19, Lawrence at #18, Studio Pankow at #31, the new Kelley Polar album (which deserves much better but seems to be released too late) and Danger Doom on #forty something..
- Boomkat’s Top 50 singles - haven’t checked most although i can vouch for Hey-o-Hansen, John Yoko, Mathew Jonson etc. nice list to dig through.
- Wire’s top 50 on Swen’s blog - Konono No.1 - Isolee - M. Herbert (which is not so good as his older), Jamie Lidell - Lau Nau are nice, but how about Boards of Canada, LCD Soundsystem and Black Mountain.. weeeell…
- Pitchfork Top 50 albums commentary on ILX - Nice comments from both sides..
- Gilles Peterson’s end of year list - Well, a list to check no doubt with (at last) different music from most lists, Ed Motta ? Steve Reid Ensemble? Soil and Pimp Sessions? who are these guys? :)
- Piccadilly’s top 100 list - Definitely a must check list featuring Tunng, Lindstrom & Prins Thomas (too high), Jack Rose, Hanna Hukkelberg etc.. although some questionables like Beck, Maximo Park and Electrelane
- Igloo’s top 10 list - truly an intriguing list than most, although I’m not sure about the muzak here since I haven’t listened to any?
- Said the Gramophone’s top list - you can download his top songs, so it’s not only a list but at least 25 nice tracks for you, get the Okkervil River and We/or/me songs here at least :)
- Top 10 MF Doom lyrics on Armchair Novelist blog - they raps ain’t got no gift like a lonely christmas. MF Doom is the illest!
- Artforum.com’s Best of 2005 - showcases why traditional art circles are totally in a state of illusion. Banal ideas, uninteresting art, closed communities and big words. Count me out and go read we make money not art or wooster collective.
well that’s about it for now.. gonna have some more best of lists once I have enough time..
