Greetings to you all, my fellow Undo citizens. I’ve been soaked into hiphop nowadays and decided it was time to do a little dedicated corner.
The hip-hop highlight of my recent playlists was Haiku d’etat. The triumverate, consisting of our legendary Aceyalone, Mikah 9 (from The Freestyle Fellowship) and Abstract Rude (from Abstract Tribe Unique) have their roles nicely played out:
Aceyalone as “the poet”, Mikah as “the jazz” and Abstract as “the soul”.
Spoken-word has got to have a certain poetic socio-political depth to it, but it doesn’t always come in a such deeply soulful and jazzy package. Especially those in-between sax flows help a great deal of course.
I haven’t heard their newest album “Coup de Theatre”, but if it’s half as good as their self-titled year 2000 album, it’s definitely worth a shot. As always, i don’t want to trouble our precious html margins with excessive band statistics and invite you to get your informational nutrients from this nice interview.
Another loved one is none other than our good old friend Dj Vadim, Russia’s sole pride in the Ninja Tune artist roster. His “children of the possibility”with his side project, One self, is among the smoothest hip hop i’ve heard this year. Here, we have this soft” in-between-styles” flow, which i definitely like about a hip hop release; nice soft grimy underlining with perfectly matching vocal numbers, soulful blues and even an occasional indian tap here and there. Yummy.
