The Kung Fu Monkeys

Continuing the recent surge, i’ve decided to post from one of my fave albums. If there is one CD (apart from Slayer’s Reign in Blood) that I wish was longer, it’s The Kung Fu Monkeys’ “School’s out, Surf’s up, Let’s fall in Love” from 2000.

KFM is the embodiment of bubblegum pop, they sound as if they are still living in a parody of 50s Pleasantville. Lyrics cover diverse (!) topics like hula hoops, summercamps, tv, vegetables, surfing and love; and they seem to be written for intellectual high-school nerds who go skating with their platonic loves.

Well ok I know it sounds gay and all that, but it’s so naive, cheerful and catchy you just have to listen to it, even if only as an ode to tv shows and cartoons you watched in the past. BTW they seem to be defunct now.
