I will forever thank Deerhoof for the surge of spazz rock around, because their success has encouraged lots of likeminded musicians everywhere. Ni Hao! is an all girl trio from Kansai (like Afrirampo), with this really odd line up of 2 basses and 1 drums. Their music has elements of distorted surf guitar, punk, spazz rock, contrapuntal canons, cartoon vocals, silly j-pop melodies in it. The attitude in the music is terrific and as strange as it may seem (well it seemed strange to me anyways) they’re signed to Tzadik.

These Japanese people, they really are living in a strange cartoonish world and I enjoy every bit.
