minotaur shock - somebody once told me..

(taken from his Maritime album on 4AD)

Minotaur Shock is David Edwards, from Bristol, and he has just released an outstanding 2nd album on 4AD released last month. . The album is labeled as folktronica by critics although he’s not happy with the generalisation (folktronica?!) . It’s a melodic album with a subtle dose of accoustic instruments (mostly brasses) and yes, cheerful folkish melodies i should say. However the amalgamation of electronic bits and the acoustic bits are so perfect it’s almost natural. This is not a gimmick album, his humour and worldview is branded in his music for sure. This kind of music really grew on me for the last months (folktronica?!!), and this album is a milestone album that i should rate every new album i listen in this genre hereafter.

you can check out his microsite on 4AD records, until his official site is back up. Here is an interview done with him in May and here is a review from Milk Factory.

EXTRA : a french mp3blog article on folktronica, has downloads of Khonnor and Tunng.
another mp3blog article , for samples of Pastacas from Kohvi records, his album Tsaca Tsap has been on my playlist for a few months, and it’s a surprisingly good, Estonian electronic pop album. He really deserves attention! :)

ANOTHER EXTRA : ok i just couldn’t decide which song to post, so i’m posting another one and i repeat, this album is the new sensation :)
